The year 2005 was not a good one for Venice Nolte. In fact, the world as she knew it, had crumbled before her eyes. She lost her husband and dog, had to sell her house and car, and broke her hip. Venice felt alone, lost all hope and did not know what lay ahead. Luckily, the ebullient senior remembered she had visited a friend at Barkley Place two years earlier and had some good memories of the community.

Venice had several requirements, which had to be met before she would move. She wanted to rent at a reasonable rate rather than spend down her limited assets, needed help on occasion, and wanted a secure atmosphere and light cleaning assistance and the availability of prepared meals.

Upon moving into Barkley Place her needs were not only met they were exceeded beyond her expectations. There were regular exercise classes, a year round pool, transportation to take her to the doctor, shopping, church, etc., too many activities to take advantage of and a great pool of residents to keep her busy day and night.

Although Venice had to wait two months for a spacious two bedroom, two-bath apartment, Barkley Place gave her a temporary apartment immediately and she is thrilled they did. “I have a total life here it’s even better than the life that was taken from me. I have so many friends, as many activities as I can fit into a day and my heart is happy. My tears were transformed into tears of joy.”
